The Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our Data Services team. Based in either Melbourne or Brisbane, you will play a key role in supporting and enhancing our data infrastructure.

This role involves maintaining and improving existing data pipelines, delivering ad-hoc reports (via Power BI and SQL), and supporting project-based work such as the integration of new data sources. A major focus of the role will also be ensuring data quality, reliability, and consistency across all systems and outputs.

You’ll work with tools such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Notebooks, and Power BI, including managing semantic models and using DevOps pipelines for version control and deployment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, enhance, and troubleshoot data pipelines to ensure consistent and timely data flow.
  • Develop and support ad-hoc reports using Power BI and SQL.
  • Ensure data quality by implementing validation rules, profiling data sources, and proactively identifying inconsistencies or issues.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting mechanisms to promptly notify business stakeholders in the event of job failures, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption to downstream processes
  • Design and implement data models and transformations using Microsoft Fabric and Notebooks.
  • Orchestrate data workflows using Azure Data Factory (ADF).
  • Build and maintain semantic models in Power BI, including integration with DevOps pipelines.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps for Power BI, Notebooks, and other data assets.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver scalable, accurate data solutions.
  • Support the GM, Data Services in strategic initiatives, process improvements, and new data projects.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Microsoft Fabric
    • Azure Data Factory (ADF)
    • Notebooks (e.g., Synapse or Fabric)
    • Power BI including semantic model development
    • SQL for querying and data transformation
    • Python for data engineering workflows
  • Hands on experience with Data Ingestion from various sources:
    •  Rest API
    • Direct database/ data lake/ cloud storage and/or
    • Logic Apps or Azure Functions
  • Demonstrated focus on data quality, including validation, cleansing, and profiling techniques.
  • Experience using DevOps pipelines for version control and deployment in Power BI environments.
  • Proficient in using GitHub or Azure Repos for source control.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
